Manning Latest Standout To Choose Texas A&M

Defensive tackle Justin Manning from Kimball High School in Dallas has committed to Texas A&M.

Manning, who chose the Aggies over Oklahoma and TCU, is the latest highly-touted prospect to choose Texas A&M. The Aggies have 33 commitments for the class of 2013, eight of whom are ranked in the top 300 by ESPNU.

It shows the work being done by first-year coach Kevin Sumlin and his staff is paying off.

“I can trust (A&M), and I feel like it’ll be a challenge,” Manning told ESPN RecruitingNation. “I feel like I’m challenging myself to be better. Oklahoma has been my dream school since Day 1. The only doubts I had about them was when I arrived, would I feel too comfortable?”

Manning’s brother, DeMarcus Granger, played on the defensive line at Oklahoma from 2006-09. That added to the surprise of Manning’s decision on Thursday.

Manning is the the second prospect in the last week to choose Texas A&M over other high-profile offers. Wide receiver Ja’Quay Williams, who signed with Auburn in February but was unable to enroll, committed to Texas A&M over Georgia and South Carolina on Sunday.

Texas A&M’s class is ranked No. 10 in the nation by ESPNU, good for fifth best in the SEC.

Sumlin and his staff still have work to do to out-recruit schools like Texas, Alabama and Florida, but the necessary steps have been taken to begin that process.

Winning football games has helped. Landing prospects like Manning and Williams will only add to the attraction of playing at Texas A&M.
